This print was made for the 2010 'OVER NORMAL' show at 54SF gallery in San Francisco, and is loosely based on aircraft roundels, which are the designs painted on to the wings and tail-fins of military aircraft.
The phrases used in the work shown at 54SF were taken directly from spam emails collected in the years prior to 2010 by Stanley Donwood, and the colours (as with all of the OVER NORMAL work) are what he described as his 'California palette'; seven colours, inspired by the roadside advertising of Los Angeles.
